André got his first taste of entrepreneurship at an early age as co-owner and operating partner in a Bistro he worked at part-time during his matric year. This sparked an early interest and passion for entrepreneurship that would continue to grow. Wanting to develop further and gain more business experience André ventured onto a corporate career when he joined Famous Brands Ltd and completed a Bachelor of Commerce through Unisa at the same time. During his time at Famous Brands André had the opportunity to work closely with a multitude of small business owners across various regions and from a wide variety of backgrounds. Famous Brands Ltd being a Blue-Chip company is known for being the jewel in the crown of the restaurant franchise industry and largest in Africa. André worked closely with many incoming and outgoing franchisees in-store handovers as required by franchise guidelines and gained a wealth of experience in the process. After 9 years spent at Famous Brands Ltd., he joined the fast-growing retail franchise – Montagu Dried Fruit & Nuts in the capacity as Business Development Manager. “For me, this was a natural transition. Having spent almost a decade with a very well-established franchisor he was keen to implement what I learnt”. The role was wide-ranging including finding and selecting suitable store locations and franchisees, responsibility for overall store performance and development of franchise systems. Recognising the global shift to e-commerce André joined Takealot.com after 2 years’ involvement at Montagu but not before investing in his own Montagu franchise store which he operated part-time, not wanting to sever ties completely with the franchise industry. “It was very important for me to get involved in the online space recognising that most businesses will have to adopt an online strategy at some point in order to remain competitive, the rate at which e-commerce is growing is phenomenal.” André has maintained a keen interest in entrepreneurship and strong belief and support for the contribution SME’s make to the economy. “Through my involvement in the Business Brokering industry, I seek to help further develop a marketplace for the sale of businesses to encourage entrepreneurship and enable business succession.
